    The Role of CD4+ Memory T cell Subtypes in Periodontal Disease Recurrence
    Role Description: PROJECT NARRATIVE Periodontitis is characterized by episodic recurrence throughout the patient's life, a growing global public health problem due to its bidirectional association with general health. This project will identify the generation, persistence, and pathogenic role of periodontitis-induced CD4+ memory T cell subtypes in a model of recurring periodontal disease. Using a novel T cell periodontal enriching strategy, we will dissect the functional properties of constitutively versus pathologically developed CD4+ memory T cells and assess the therapeutic potential of targeting these cells to prevent periodontitis recurrence.
