Overview
Our group has an overall focus on using patient-oriented and epidemiologic research studies to evaluate the etiology, outcomes, and public health burden of rheumatic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In particular, our research themes are: 1) RA risk and outcomes related to pulmonary disease, 2) outcomes of COVID-19 among patients with rheumatic diseases, and 3) rheumatic immune-related adverse events from immunotherapy for cancer treatment.

Mentoring
Available: 04/05/22, Expires: 07/01/25

We are currently focusing on the interplay between lung inflammation/fibrosis and rheumatoid arthritis susceptibility and outcomes. We hypothesize that immune tolerance loss and RA-related autoantibody production occur at mucosal surfaces of the lung contributing to both RA risk and outcomes. Students may assist in investigating risk factors and outcomes of RA-associated interstitial lung diseases and bronchiectasis. Also, the team is testing the hypotheses using a variety of study designs, such as the Nurses' Health Studies, a large institutional RA registry, EMR data, pharmacy claims data, the Mass General Brigham Biobank, and clinical trials.

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
