Dr. Cindy Liu is the Director of Multicultural Research at the Commonwealth Research Center, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Instructor of Psychology within the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, and an Assistant Research Professor within the Department of Psychology at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Dr. Liu’s research focuses on culture and socio-emotional development, and race and ethnic disparities related to maternal and child mental health. Her program of research incorporates data ranging from behavioral and physiological data collected from the laboratory to population level variables from large survey research. She is the recipient of grant awards from NICHD (1R21HD072448-01), NIMH (2T32MH016259-30A1, F31HD052490-01A1), American Psychological Association, Sackler Foundation, Robert Wood Johnson, American Psychological Foundation / Okura Foundation, Harvard Catalyst, and Office of Diversity and Community Partnership at Harvard Medical School. She currently serves on the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health Multicultural Advisory Committee and on the Executive Board of the Asian American Psychological Association. Dr. Liu received her PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Oregon, and completed her clinical internship at McLean Hospital and postdoctoral fellowship at Children’s Hospital Boston.
Dr. Liu is currently the PI for the following projects:
- Race and ethnic disparities in psychosocial stress in MA and NYC mothers during the postpartum period
- The evaluation of hair cortisol as a biomarker for chronic stress in a diverse community sample of mothers and infants
- Infant reactivity and social stress in Chinese American and European American mothers and infants
- Mental health knowledge and service delivery Asian American parents
- Asian American migration experiences academic and community partnership
