The student would work with the faculty mentor, Dr. Sophia McKinley, to define their interest within a range of surgical education research topics and work as a member of the MGH Surgical Education Research Group to complete their scholarly project. Potential project topics touch on a broad spectrum of issues in surgical education including medical student feedback during the core surgery rotation, professional identity formation in surgery, quality and equitability of surgical subinternship experiences, resilience in surgical training, development of surgical rotation apps and digital resources, among others. Depending on the project, remote work may be possible. Students who are on site will have access to additional shadowing opportunities in surgical oncology clinic and operating rooms as well as the chance to observe and participate in simulated surgical skills training. Students would have the opportunity to learn a range of research skills including but not limited to IRB preparation and submission, survey research, qualitative research interviewing and coding, and manuscript preparation skills.

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
