Overview
Clinical
As the Director of Head and Neck Imaging and Interventions in the division of neuroradiology at BWH, I aim to maintain and improve the diagnostic quality of our skull base, face, and neck imaging examinations and the patient experience and outcomes of our face and neck diagnostic and therapeutic image-guided procedure service. I also review and interpret imaging examinations of the brain, face, neck, and spine and perform image-guided procedures in the head, neck, and spine including biopsies, tumor ablations, injections for pain relief, and vertebroplasties.
Research
My goal is to increase diagnostic certainty and accuracy, reduce diagnostic error and time to diagnosis, and improve patient-centered outcomes by building evidence-based best practices for radiology reporting and by building and adapting rapid quantitative MRI techniques
My research is currently funded by the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB, principal investigator) and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ, co-investigator). I have had prior research funding from the Association of University Radiologists and the American Society of Head and Neck Radiology. I work in the Advanced Lab for MRI and Acoustics and in the Center for Evidence Based Imaging.
My current areas of active investigation are:
- Efficacy and implementation of advanced/novel MRI sequences
- Optimization of clinical MRI protocols
- Radiologist reporting and recommendation quality
Previous interests of less active interest at this time include:
- Neuroimaging findings in concussion and chronic traumatic encephalopathy
- Percutaneous image-guided interventions in the head and neck and spine
- Imaging of cancers and cancer-related issues in the head and neck and brain
