Overview
Dr. Vasil Kostin is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School and an Honorary Researcher at Oxford University, with a specialized focus on the integration of artificial intelligence within ophthalmology, particularly in medical retina. Since 2019, he has been actively involved in MedTech/HealthTech work, creating innovative devices in various medical fields for which he has received national and international distinctions. He secured a prestigious grant as the youngest successful applicant from the Czech government's highly competitive Program for applied research, experimental development, and innovation.
Throughout his medical education, Dr. Kostin demonstrated a commitment to teaching, serving as an Instructor of Anatomy Dissections for medical students. Presently, he is dedicated to enhancing the educational experiences of final-year medical students in Practical Skills in Ophthalmology. Additionally, he is the main organizer of the Summer School of Ophthalmology in Prague for European Universities, an initiative that has flourished under his guidance, annually instructing 30 selected candidates from across Europe.
Beyond entrepreneurial ventures, Dr. Kostin had been actively engaged in humanitarian efforts, contributing to missions in Kenya and collaborating with Doctors Without Borders (MSF) on the development of 3D printable insulin pens. Presently, his professional focus lies in the medical retina field and the application of AI methods in Ophthalmology at the Harvard Ophthalmology AI Lab under the supervision of Assistant Professor Mengyu Wang, PhD.
