Dr. Kimiyo Kikuchi, MPhil. MHSc., PhD., is a visiting scientist (Fulbright research fellow) in the Department of Global Health and Population at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She obtained her Master’s degree in Philosophy from Paris VIII University and earned Master’s and PhD degrees in Health Sciences from the University of Tokyo.

Prior to her academic career, Dr. Kikuchi worked as a consultant in the health sector of Official Development Assistance under Japanese government projects on maternal health, school children’s health, and water and sanitation in Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia. Within academia, she has held positions as an assistant professor in the Department of Global Health and Community at the University of Tokyo and as a lecturer at the Institute of Decision Sciences and Department of Health Sciences at Kyushu University.

Dr. Kikuchi’s research focuses on the health of mothers and children, with the objective of improving the continuum of care. She served as the coordinator of the EMBRACE implementation study in Ghana, collaborating with the Japanese and Ghanaian governments and contributing to Ghana’s first maternal and child health handbook. Additionally, she is the principal investigator leading an oral health study for HIV-positive children in Cambodia and an ICT-based maternal and child telehealth care study in Bangladesh. The latter study earned her the 2023 Women’s Challenge Award from the Cabinet Office, Government of Japan. Implementation of her study model has been initiated in Africa.
