Overview
Guided by my training, I have combined data structures and parallelization for working with big data and applied robust statistics with priors derived from neuroscience throughout my research. My focus has been on the common dynamical principles that operate across the brain, resulting in PhD research where I identified the importance of a simple diffusion dynamic to fMRI functional connectivity and how oscillatory dynamics can promote both aberrant and beneficial synchronization in the brain in MEG, EEG and LFP.

As a postdoc, I set out to work on developing our understanding of rhythms in the brain. I used a generative model of rhythms to build a method of real-time phase estimation. A second paper is under review and focused on studying the difficulty of specifying a unique phase for brain rhythms and offering solutions to manage that ambiguity. Concurrently, I was working on chronic thalamocortical recordings from epileptic patients to understand what aspects of brain rhythm dynamics in sleep are orchestrated from the thalamus. This research will teach us how thalamocortical dysfunction in epilepsy is linked to cognitive symptoms and suggest new therapies focused on supporting thalamocortical rhythms.
