Overview
Dr. Amar Kelkar is a Stem Cell Transplantation Physician at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He sees patients for allogeneic transplantation and cell and gene therapy, treating many blood disorders including leukemia and sickle cell disease. He also directs the BMT Survivorship Clinic.

He is a member of the Abel Laboratory with research interests in hematology, care delivery, health economics, medical ethics, public health, and health policy. He completed an MPH in Clinical Effectiveness at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in 2023 and received the ASTCT New Investigator Award in 2024. His work has been published in journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Annals of Internal Medicine, and the Journal of Clinical Oncology, as well as in STAT Opinion. He also has interests in health policy and medical advocacy and serves on the American Society of Hematology Committee on Practice and Subcommittee on Reimbursement, the American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy Value and Health Economics Special Interest Group, and the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS) Committee on Publications that oversees the NEJM Group. He previously served on the MMS Board of Trustees, the American Medical Association (AMA) Council on Legislation, and was the AMA Resident and Fellow Section Governing Council Delegate to the House of Delegates.

His background is in molecular biology and genetics with a degree from Cornell University in Biological Sciences, where he worked for 3 years as a member of the Andrew Clark Laboratory focused on population genetics. He completed postgraduate medical training at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria, the University of Florida College of Medicine, and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
