Overview
The ultimate goal of my current efforts is to engage the difficult clinical problem of HCV infection, particularly in special populations, in a meaningful and effective way within academic medicine. Special populations include those with HIV-1/HCV coinfection, post-transplantation HCV, and HCV in the prison population. Current projects include identification and diagnosis of acute HCV, racial differences in injection drug use (particularly heroin), immunology of acute HCV, the role of HLA and other genes in the spontaneous control of HCV infection, and the immunopathogenesis of HIV-1/HCV coinfection.
