Larry A Nathanson, MD, is dual board certified in emergency medicine and clinical informatics. He is the director of Emergency Medical Informatics for the Department of Emergency Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) in Boston. Besides clinical responsibilities treating patients, he develops computer applications to support emergency care. He received a bachelor's degree in Computer Medical Science from Boston University, an MD from SUNY Downstate and trained in Emergency Medicine at the Medical College of Pennsylvania. He completed an NIH sponsored Medical Informatics fellowship at the Center for Clinical Computing, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School. He currently holds a faculty appointment as Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Nathanson is the architect of the "ED Dashboard", the ED information system that has been used at BIDMC since 2001. This software integrates data from the ED and many different areas of the hospital to give clinicians the ability to better communicate, monitor the department, improve patient safety and streamline the delivery of emergency care. He is also one of the principal authors of ECG Wave-maven (http://ecg.bidmc.harvard.edu) which includes a collection of 500+ challenging ECG tracings with explanations and teaching. It is one of the top 10 Google hits for "ECG Cases" (out of 30+ million). Dr. Nathanson responded to Haiti after the 2010 earthquake, providing medical assistance as well as leveraging technology to improve the efficiency and operations of a field hospital.
