Overview
My laboratory's major research focus is on liver fibrosis/cirrhosis. Specifically, we are investigating the basic mechanisms of progression and regression of liver scarring. Our goal is the development of non-invasive diagnostic tools to measure these processes in the clinic, and novel therapies to prevent and reverse cirrhosis and its life-threatening complications. We are actively working on the development, validation and optimization of small animal models for novel drug target discovery and efficacy testing. Some of our current basic research projects include the investigation of a novel macrophage-mediated pathway of fibrosis reversal, a role of intestinal microbiota in chronic liver disease, and elucidating the molecular mechanisms of fibrotic matrix stabilization and collagen cross-linking which make liver scarring irreversible.

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
