Dr. Vannicelli is a Clinical Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School, an attending psychologist at McLean Hospital and a Fellow in the American Group Psychotherapy Association. She currently also teaches 3 group therapy courses at the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology and is in private practice in Cambridge, MA.

For many years, she was a consultant and peer reviewer for the National Institute of Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse (NIAAA), and is currently on the board of the American Academy of Health Care Specialists in the Addictions. For twenty years, she was also Director (and founder) of the Appleton Substance Abuse Clinic at McLean Hospital. She has published more than 50 publications including two Guilford Press books: Group Psychotherapy with ACOAs: Treatment Techniques and Countertransference Considerations; and Removing the Roadblocks: Group Psychotherapy with Substance Abusers and Family Members. She has lectured on group psychotherapy and on the treatment of alcohol abusers and their family members at various national forums including the National Football League, and internationally, including: Yugoslavia, Belgium, Brazil, Norway, Mexico, Holland, Northern Ireland, England, Israel, and Canada.
