Available: 12/12/23, Expires: 12/31/40

Our laboratory offers a variety of potential M.D. student projects across our research portfolio in cancer genomics, cancer cell biology, the cancer microbiome, and cancer therapeutics. Our disease of emphasis is lung cancer but we also have research programs in colorectal cancer, glioblastoma, and pan-cancer. Potential projects include both experimental cell biology, biochemistry, genome engineering, and animal cancer models, as well as computational genomics on the somatic and germline genome and the microbiome. Each student will be paired with a senior PhD student, post-doctoral research fellow, or research scientist in our group, who will be your direct supervisor. Specific areas include: Cancer genomics: --Long-read sequencing of lung cancer genomes and transcriptomes --How does germline ancestry impact risk of lung cancer somatic mutations? Cancer cell biology: --Understanding the role of "mystery genes" mutated in lung cancer including NKX2-1, U2AF1 and CMTR2 --Studying somatic super-enhancer duplications in cancer Cancer microbiome: --Assessing the role of Fusobacterium infection in colon cancer pathogenesis Cancer therapeutics: --Targeting oncogenes: EGFR/ERBB2, telomerase, others --Targeting the cancer neo-genome with nucleic acid approaches

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
