Aykut Bilge MD, PhD is an Associate in Perioperative Anesthesia at Boston Children's Hospital. He graduated with his medical degree from Hacettepe University Medical School in Ankara, Turkey in 1982. He received his PhD in Biological Structure from the University of Washington in Seattle in 1995. Dr. Bilge completed his residency training in anesthesiology at the University of Vermont in Burlington, and his pediatric anesthesia fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital/Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Bilge found his niche in pediatric anesthesia because of his enjoyment in caring for children throughout his medical school and training experiences. Dr. Bilge says, "By providing the safest possible anesthetic and treatment to minimize procedure related pain, it is my greatest pleasure to alleviate the fear and anxiety of my patients and their families."

Dr. Bilge's clinical and research interest are in postoperative pain management. Specifically, he focuses on regional anesthesia including caudal and epidural nerve blocks. His most recent study involved investigating the effects of adjunct medications, such as clonidine and fentanyl, in caudal block regimens. He is also a co-investigator in a study assessing the safety profile of long-acting local anesthetic neosaxitoxin (NeoSTX) alone and in combination with bupivacaine.

Dr. Bilge is a diplomate of American Board of Anesthesiology and has certifications both in Anesthesiology and Pediatric Anesthesiology.
