Nucleic Acid Denaturation

"Nucleic Acid Denaturation" is a descriptor in the National Library of Medicine's controlled vocabulary thesaurus, MeSH (Medical Subject Headings). Descriptors are arranged in a hierarchical structure, which enables searching at various levels of specificity.

Disruption of the secondary structure of nucleic acids by heat, extreme pH or chemical treatment. Double strand DNA is "melted" by dissociation of the non-covalent hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic interactions. Denatured DNA appears to be a single-stranded flexible structure. The effects of denaturation on RNA are similar though less pronounced and largely reversible.

This graph shows the total number of publications written about "Nucleic Acid Denaturation" by people in Harvard Catalyst Profiles by year, and whether "Nucleic Acid Denaturation" was a major or minor topic of these publication.
