Collapse overview
My research program, based in Mbarara, Uganda and Durban, South Africa, is aimed at mitigating the causes of morbidity and mortality among people living with HIV in low-income countries. My projects include 1) directing clinical trials to evaluate scalable interventions to address structural barriers to care, including transportation costs and poor communication systems, 2) directing a longitudinal cohort study of aging HIV-infected persons and age and gender-matched HIV-uninfected controls to discern the epidemiology of aging in people living with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa; and 3) leading an NIH and PEPFAR-funded randomized clinical trial to estimate the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of resistance testing to improve management of virologic failure in sub-Saharan Africa. In addition, I serve as the primary mentor to over a dozen medical students, medical trainees and junior faculty, and have been recognized for this work with the Harvard Medical School Young Mentor Award.
