The MGH Cardiac Psychiatry Research Program (CPRP) welcomes participation from Harvard Medical Students to participate in research projects at the interface of psychiatry and cardiology. These include analysis of data from a recent study that prospectively examined psychological states' (e.g., optimism) effects on subsequent change in cardiac biomarkers, health behaviors, and other clinical outcomes following an acute coronary syndrome, and ongoing intervention studies using psychological treatments to improve depression and increase healthy behaviors in patients with recent cardiac events. Specific projects will depend on the duration/timing of participation, but may include analysis of existing data, assessment of participants in ongoing projects, and participation in publications. Our team has experience working with HMS students, and we have aimed to provide deep involvement in projects and opportunities for presentation and publication of work. For inquiries about the team and potential student projects, please contact Jeff Huffman MD, Director of the CPRP, at jhuffman@partners.org.

Available: 09/25/18, Expires: 09/21/21

Our team studies programs designed to improve mental health, physical activity, and other health behaviors in patients with heart disease, diabetes, and other medical conditions. We have had three HMS students work with us for year-long periods, with the role a combination of research assistant, study clinician, and graduate student. All students have gotten substantial research experience, multiple publications, and at least one first-author peer reviewed publication.

Available: 10/18/20, Expires: 10/01/22

Our team has a variety of projects related to the promotion of mental health and/or physical activity in patients with heart disease and/or diabetes, ranging from well-being programs to text message interventions. The projects are based at MGH (and sometimes BWH), the student often is a mix of an RA, interventionist/counselor, and graduate student, and often there is deep involvement and publication of several papers. Usually a minimum of 6 months and ideally a year would be spent to really have the most productive and enjoyable experience.

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
