We are pursuing several breast cancer research projects in Rwanda seeking to identify strategies to promote earlier detection of disease and evaluate the quality of breast cancer treatment provided. I am looking for a medical student to help review paper and electronic medical records (largely oncology records) in Rwanda, at Butaro Cancer Center of Excellence which is a Partners in Health-supported hospital in rural northwest Rwanda. Training and supervision would be provided by me in Boston (and potentially Rwanda depending on schedules), and by colleagues in Rwanda. This would be a rewarding opportunity for students interested in global health, women’s health, and/ or oncology, and those interested in building clinical research skills and pursuing research questions relevant to understanding and improving care delivery in a resource-limited setting. Chart review experience and familiarity with cancer care would be helpful but not required. Previous trainees involved in this work have been able to lead abstracts and/or manuscripts on topics within the larger project. The ideal timeframe would be 1-3 months between March 2019 and December 2019. Laurie Schleimer, 4th year HMS student, previously worked with me on this project and would be willing to share her experience with interested students.

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
