Innovative mobile health (mHealth) platforms are able to collect Patient Reported Outcome (PRO) data from patients after dental procedures to optimize the quality of acute post-op dental pain management. In our NIH funded we work with the FollowApp.Care® platform to collect data on patients’ pain intensity and pain experience through the use of standardize and validated mHealth questionnaires.
In this specific project we propose a secondary analysis on previous collected data generated through one item of the mHealth questionnaire regarding radiating pain to neighboring teeth after extraction; explore any relationship with corresponding pain levels and potential diagnostic outcome of a dry socket.
The student will be asked to do a literature review on radiating pain after extraction and wisdom teeth removal; pain levels surrounding the time of a dry socket diagnosis; and any documentation in the literature of radiating pain to neighboring teeth and dry socket prevalence.
Next, the student will be involved with the secondary analysis of the data. Our team has a full-time biostatistician who will be available to work closely with the student to instruct the student in secondary analysis methodologies.
Lastly, the student will be involved with the analysis of extracted fully de-identified EHR data to understand the relationship between radiating pain and potential outcome of a dry socket.
