The need for an MRI scan if an adult patient is found to have hearing loss in one ear is controversial. Some advocate imaging all patients to find small benign tumors, others advocate getting a follow up examination of the patient hearing and yet others recommend watchful waiting. Setting a standard for when to work up a patient is always a challenge. For example, for thyroid nodules, if they are less than 1 cm we do not intervene. Many years of research has helped us arrive at this conclusion. The evidence for a work up for asymmetric hearing loss is scattered in the literature. This project aims to pull all the papers on the topic and put together a systematic review on the topic.

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
