TB is the leading cause of death due to an infectious disease globally. TB transmission from patients with unsuspected disease is the major driver of TB incidence. Dr. Nathavitharana’s research interests center around using implementation science to improve TB care delivery and decrease TB transmission. Dr. Nathavitharana is also the Vice Chair of TB Proof, an organization that seeks to directly involve communities affected by TB to advocate for high quality TB prevention and care, informed by the latest research.

Potential HMS student projects include analyses of the diagnostic accuracy of TB tests, analyses of risk factors for TB transmission among health care workers, scoping and systematic reviews, and advocacy opportunities. Work can be done remotely.

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
