The first version of the Atlas was published in 2005 by WHO. The current version will be a collaboration between WHO and the International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions. The new version will be more comprehensive and consider a broad range of social determinants and economic considerations not included in the original version. The expectation is that a larger number of countries will provide information for this version. The original only had responses from focal points in 70 countries. The student participating in this project will learn about mental health metrics, the workings of the WHO in relation to its regional advisors and country focal points and gain an understanding of the gaps in services worldwide for child and adolescent mental disorders. The project should last about 2 years with publication within 3 years. Data will be collected in English and French depending on the country. Lack of French language skills should not be a problem as others are involved in the project.
