Our laboratory uses molecular, biochemical, and genetic approaches to study signaling cascades that are activated inappropriately in tumors. We are interested in understanding how the activation of transcription factors such as STATs leads to programs of gene expression resulting in malignancy, and using this knowledge for the development of novel anti-cancer strategies. A motivated and collegial student is welcome to collaborate in this research, which is leading to new targeted therapies for cancer.

The malignant behavior of a cancer cell is largely driven by mis-regulated gene expression, which leads to increased proliferation, survival, and self-renewal. Mutations in a cancer cell lead to the inappropriate activation of signaling pathways, which then culminates in these abnormal patterns of gene expression. Our laboratory is interested in understanding how transcriptional pathways become subverted in cancer pathogenesis, and how this knowledge can be used to devise novel therapeutic strategies for patients with cancer. We have developed clinical trials at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute based on discoveries on our laboratory, and we are committed to continuing the translation of these advances from the laboratory to the clinic. We welcome collegial and motivated students to undertake a project in our laboratory that will provide an opportunity to learn methods in translational cancer research, and to contribute to these overall goals.
