Overview
I am a Medical Physicist with a passion for research and development to solve clinical problems, deploying the resulting innovative technologies in the clinic, and translating new problems that arise in the clinic back into research questions. I made this transition of technologies from the bench to the bedside and back many times throughout my career.

  1. 1 R01 CA266803-01A1 (BORTFELD, THOMAS R.) Sep 20, 2022 - Aug 31, 2027
    NIH/NCI
An Ionizing Radiation Acoustics Imaging (iRAI) Approach for guided Flash Radiotherapy
Role Description: The goal is to address the current challenges of effective and safe FLASH-RT clinical delivery by developing an image-pulse guidance system utilizing technological advances in radiation acoustic imaging and machine learning algorithms.
    Role: Co-Principal Investigator

    NIH/NCI
Automated interactive definition of the clinical target volume in radiation oncology
Role Description: The definition of the clinical target volume in which high doses of radiation are delivered to treat cancer is the weakest link in the radiation therapy chain. It is currently a cumbersome manual process in which a radiation oncologist draws the target contours manually, with many uncertainties involved, leading to a large variability between contours drawn by different physicians. In collaboration with a leading company in radiation treatment planning, we develop a machine learning based approach to define the clinical target volume semi- automatically, which will lead to greater efficiency in defining the clinal target, more consistency, and better treatment plans for the patients.
    Role: Principal Investigator
  5. R01CA118200 (BORTFELD, THOMAS R.) Jul 1, 2007 - May 31, 2013
    NIH
Management of Breathing effects in Radiotherapy Planning
    Role: Principal Investigator

Bibliographic
Publications listed below are automatically derived from MEDLINE/PubMed and other sources, which might result in incorrect or missing publications. Faculty can login to make corrections and additions.
Newest   |   Oldest   |   Most Cited   |   Most Discussed   |   Timeline   |   Field Summary   |   Plain Text
PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
