For students interested in developing media projects (video/audio/online) to address social determinants of disease that can be used in a variety of medical education and public health advocacy contexts. Together with Harvard FAS professor Lisa New, students will select a topic of interest (eg, HIV/AIDS, breast cancer), define a specific content area to address, produce media drawing on personal and literary narratives of illness experience, and edit captured video/audio for publication online. Various opportunities for dissemination of completed projects available include online courses (both in the medical education and humanities domains), podcasts, and broadcast media. Dr. Neal Baer, well-known Hollywood producer of television shows ER and Law and Order, will participate in project development. Funding is available for up to 3 students to travel to Washington DC to capture content at a major Poetry Foundation sponsored event featuring distinguished poets including Dr. Campo. Video recording and editing will be supported by the Bok Center at Harvard University. Students should expect to attend six project development sessions with Dr. Campo and Prof New, focusing on narrative medicine theory in relation to advocacy and social determinants of disease and media production techniques. PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
