Overview
The goal of my work is to identify effective strategies for families to obtain and use health insurance coverage so they can access needed care without incurring financially burdensome costs. My research examines the impact of health insurance design on decision making, health care, and health outcomes for children and families. Most recently, this has focused on high-deductible health insurance plans and health insurance exchange plans with the goal of informing policy making with rigorous evidence.

For my teaching activities, I have been a tutorial leader in the Clinical Epidemiology and Population Health course for Harvard Medical Students. My other teaching activities include precepting medical students and pediatric residents from the Boston Combined Residency Program in the Primary Care Clinic at Children’s Hospital Boston, where I also provide direct patient care in the urgent care clinic once a week.

Mentoring
Available: 04/05/22, Expires: 06/01/23

Faculty from the Department of Population Medicine are collaborating with health plan leaders in Clinical Innovation at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care (now known as Point32Health) to design and pilot test new digital innovations for health promotion, chronic care management, and cost containment. These include a number of different innovative strategies such as app-based programs to improve diet and medication management for members with diabetes and increase adherence to medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder, as well as genomic-based screening tests to diagnose early cancer and target medication therapy. Projects involve working with faculty and the health plan team on design and implementation of pilots, selection of outcome measures and study population, analysis of data collected, and overall program evaluation.

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
