Eye trauma causes significant morbidity to a person's primary sense, vision. The outcomes of traumatic eye injuries are shown to be poor in the literature; however, pilot studies have shown that the local Boston Eye Injury protocol yield better outcomes that the national and international outcomes. Thus, projects in this field will involve outcomes of eye trauma and showing that this approach is better. The student will be involved in hypothesis generation, study implementation, analysis, and interpretation, and generation of a report. Medical student education in ophthalmology is becoming rarer as curriculae are revamped to include more group and problem-based learning. However, vision loss is the second-most feared ailment behind cancer in adults. Thus, we need to educate each medical student with a basic foundation in ophthalmology so that they can advocate for their patients are non-ophthalmic healthcare providers. Projects include designing courses for delivery of ophthalmic education to medical students, evaluation of ophthalmic skills in medical schools, and establishment of core ophthalmic skills for medical students on the national platform through the American Academy of Ophthalmology. The student and mentor will discuss interests prior to the start of the project, and they will identify a primary and backup project for completion during the project time period. A pre-requisite planning meeting will be essential at least 2 months prior to the elective.

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
