Dr. Pritchard is a licensed occupational therapist in the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics, Department of Medicine, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He specializes in observational research design and secondary analysis of large data sets. His research substantively prioritizes functional health outcomes like activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, cognitive function, and pain. To address the needs of diverse populations, he conducts health services research with an emphasis on equitable healthcare access using national survey data with complex survey design analysis techniques. To compare the clinical effectiveness and safety of treatments, he leverages pharmacoepidemiology methods with causal inference techniques. Using Medicare and private insurance claims data, he has demonstrated the benefits of low-risk nonpharmacologic pain treatments like occupational therapy. Selected publications below highlight how nonpharmacologic opioid alternatives can reduce the risk of prolonged prescription opioid use, improve patient function, and reduce pain.
