Trained as a dentist, I am fascinated with the host-associated microbial world and amazed by their significant roles in the host health and disease. I have been in the oral microbiology research field for over 15 years. I have extensive expertise in bacterial inter-species interactions, biofilm, bacterial genetics, microbial ecology, microbiome and microbial host interaction. Particularly, I am interested in achieving comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles governing microbial host homeostasis as well as the impact of microbiome on host health and diseases. The following are some of the key research interests in the lab:
1)Achieving better understanding of host associated microbial ‘dark matter".
2)Studying the cross-kingdom trafficking of host generated molecules, such as sRNA in mediating the microbial host interaction.
3)Combating oral disease, such as dental caries and periodontitis, via targeted microbial modulation.
4)Understanding the interactions bridging the microbiome (gut and/or oral) and other systemic conditions.
