Overview
Dr. Lattermann's career in Orthopaedics started at Hannover Medical School in 1995. Since he has trained at the University of Pittsburgh as well as Rush Medical Center in Chicago. he is triple fellowship trained in Sports Medicine, Orthopaedic Trauma and Orthopaedic Research and has joined the Brigham and Women's Hospital in 2018 as Chief of Sports Medicine. He has since been instrumental to create the combined MassGeneralBrigham Division of Sports Medicine, serves as one of the members of the MGB Sports Medicine leadership team and is the Director of Research for MGB Sports Medicine. Dr. Lattermann is an associate Professor at Harvard Medical School and holds the Endowed Brigham and Women's Chair for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine.
Dr. Lattermann is a practicing Sports Medicine surgeon with a busy clinical practice. He directs the BWH Cartilage Repair Center and leads the Brigham and Women's Sports Medicine Division.With over 140 peer reviewed publications and numerous book chapters, he is a sought after regional, national and international expert in cartilage repair and knee joint reconstruction , post-traumatic osteoarthritis and patello-femoral surgery. He leads a research laboratory that is focused on early post-traumatic joint inflammation and early osteoarthritis. His clinical research is focused on translation of novel techniques and approaches to address articular cartilage disease as well as inflammation in joints. His research has been funded continuously since 2006 by foundational and federal research grants. Dr. Lattermann has served as member of the research committees of all major sports medicine societies in the US and Germany, was Chair of the German Arthroscopy Society (AGA) Research Committee and currently serves as 2nd Vice President of the International Cartilage Repair Society (ICRS). Dr. Lattermann is a founding Member of the Biologics Association(BA) a Multispecialty Society aimed at directing Sports Medicine physicians in the field of Orthobiologics and novel biologic therapies.
He is a world renown speaker on the topics of cartilage repair, early and post-traumatic osteoarthritis and patellofemoral instability.
