Overview
Antonia F. Chen MD/MBA is a highly accomplished orthopaedic surgeon and researcher. She is currently an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School and the Director of Arthroplasty Research at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Before joining the Harvard community, she was the Associate Director of Research at the Rothman Institute in Philadelphia, an Associate Professor at Sidney Kimmel Medical College, and the Director of Medical Education Curriculum, Musculoskeletal Studies at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College and Thomas Jefferson University. Dr. Chen is dedicated to providing the highest quality of care for all of her patients, and her research is constantly pushing this standard forward. She was acknowledged for her exceptional patient care as one of the top doctors in the Greater Boston Region by Boston Magazine’s Top Doctor Award in both 2021 and 2022, as well as the Exceptional Women in Medicine Award from Castle Connolly in 2021. Her nearly 300 peer-reviewed publications, 45 book chapters, and 4 books help to inform the entire medical community on a wide range of topics from the complex microbiome of periprosthetic joint infections to the sociological determinants of surgical quality of care. Her cutting-edge approaches and technologies have been acknowledged by her peers through her countless research awards and her presentations all over the world. She is on the editorial board of 8 journals and was president of the Musculoskeletal Infection Society. Dr. Chen is a member of the Knee Society, and in 2021, she became the first female surgeon to join the Hip Society.
