Overview
I am a clinician and researcher in the fields of Internal and Emergency Medicine. From a clinical perspective, I focus on treating patients with all forms minor to life-threatening injuries who present acutely for care. From a research perspective, my primary interest is in the pathobiology of sepsis, a condition in which the inflammation caused by infection leads to organ dysfunction and death. Despite decades of efforts, relatively little headway has been made in terms of better understanding sepsis and developing new treatments. My area of interest is in how inflammation leads to (a) dysregulation of the blood clotting system (which can lead to either too much or too little clotting); and (b) damage to the internal structure of blood vessel walls (glycocalyx), which affects the normal function of the blood vessels and could be a mechanism for organ injury in sepsis. I am also interested in how data science and machine learning can help us examine the vast quantities of data we generate about our patients to gain new insights into how to better care for them.

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
