Overview
Maria Nardell, MD, MPH is a Research Associate at Harvard Medical School, an Associate Scientist in the Division of Global Health Equity at Brigham and Women's Hospital, and a hospitalist in the Division of General Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Dr. Nardell is passionate about storytelling, narrative medicine and qualitative research to promote humanism in medicine and advocate for disadvantaged communities domestically and across the world. Drawing on her work in the greater Boston and New Haven areas as well as globally in South Africa, Rwanda, India, Namibia, and Kenya, she is interested in drawing shared lessons across these seemingly different settings. Her current research, with mentor Ingrid Katz, MD, MHS, explores barriers to and motivations for HIV care engagement among vulnerable populations in South Africa, including young adults and migrants. Dr. Nardell also has a longstanding background in education. She is passionate about teaching and mentoring students and trainees in topics including humanism in medicine, professional development and clinical reasoning.
