Overview
Dr. Wei Tao received his B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Huazhong University of Science & Technology (2011), and Ph.D. in Biology from Tsinghua University (2015). He held a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Harvard Medical School (HMS) and Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) from 2016 to 2018. Subsequently, he was promoted to be an Instructor (Junior Faculty) at HMS in March 2018. In January 2020, his promotion to Assistant Professor gained approval from the HMS Chairs.

He has so far published over 30 peer-reviewed first/corresponding author papers in prestigious journals such as Science Translational Medicine (2), Nature Biomedical Engineering (1), Matter (Cell Press) (2), Nature Communications (2), Chemical Society Reviews (2), Advanced Materials (2), Angewandte Chemie (3), Advanced Science (1), ACS Nano (3), Nano Letters (2), etc.. He is an active reviewer for numerous journals. He is also a member of the Academy at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Tao currently serves as the Principal Investigator (PI) on multiple awards/grants including the U.S. METAvivor Early Career Investigator Award, Harvard Anaesthesia Department Basic Scientist Grant, Khoury Innovation Award, Center for Nanomedicine Research Fund, Stepping Strong Breakthrough Innovator Award (Co-PI), and American Heart Association (AHA) Collaborative Sciences Award (Co-PI).

Dr. Tao's primary research interest is in the design and synthesis of functional biomaterials, revealing nano-bio interactions (mechanism studies), and exploring their different biomedical applications including RNA therapeutics, cancer theranostics, wound healing, cardiovascular disease, bone regeneration, diabetes treatment and so on. His research thrusts include fundamental materials innovation as well as their various applications in translational medicine (not limited to the areas mentioned above). He is willing to have potential collaborators to expand the application fields of these materials.
