Overview
Clinical

As the Director of Head and Neck Imaging and Interventions in the division of neuroradiology at BWH, I aim to maintain and improve the diagnostic quality of our skull base, face, and neck imaging examinations as well as the patient experience and outcomes of our face and neck diagnostic and therapeutic image-guided procedure service. I also review and interpret diagnostic imaging examinations of the brain, face, neck, and spine and perform image-guided procedures in the head, neck, and spine including biopsies, thermal ablations of tumors and nerves, injections for pain relief, and vertebroplasties.

Research

My goal is to measurably improve healthcare quality using a combination of epidemiology, clinical and translational research, cognitive behavioral research, risk assessment, and evidence- and equity-informed quality improvement methods. My focus is on issues that are central to diagnostic and interventional radiology with a particular emphasis on the skull base, face, and neck.

My research is currently funded by the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB, principal investigator) and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ, co-investigator). I have had prior research funding from the Association of Academic Radiology and the American Society of Head and Neck Radiology. I work in the Center for Evidence Based imaging and the Advanced Lab for MRI and Acoustics.

My current areas of active investigation are:

- Establishing best practices for radiologist recommendations for additional imaging
- Improving diagnostic yield of percutaneous image-guided interventions in the head and neck and spine
- Reducing time to diagnosis and surgical morbidity for lymphoproliferative disorders
- Using rapid synthetic MRI in the face to reduce scanning time while increasing data density

Previous interests of less active investigation at this time include:

- Neuroimaging findings in concussion and chronic traumatic encephalopathy
- Imaging of cancers and cancer-related issues in the head and neck and brain

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
