Overview
Dr. Rose Molina is an obstetrician-gynecologist and scholar-activist with a passion for applying language and immigration status as critical lenses for understanding and eliminating inequities in maternal health. She is an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Biology at Harvard Medical School. She completed the Global Women's Health Fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital and obtained a Master of Public Health in Clinical Effectiveness from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist at The Dimock Center (a federally qualified community health center), where she cares for a large community of Spanish-speaking immigrants, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. She is the Faculty Director of the Health Equity Theme and the Medical Language Program at Harvard Medical School. She is also the Director of the OBGYN Diversity, Inclusion, and Advocacy Committee at BIDMC.

Dr. Molina works as Core Faculty at Ariadne Labs (a joint center for health system innovation between Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health) to design, test, and spread solutions to enhancing the quality and equity of pregnancy care in the US and around the world. She is a member of Physicians for Human Rights and performs asylum evaluations for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence.

Mentoring
Available: 02/18/22, Expires: 05/01/23

This scholarly project seeks to assess preferences regarding language-concordant care among patients with limited English proficiency. The methods will include a survey and focus group discussions with patients from Harvard-affiliated hospitals to evaluate their communication goals and preferences in both language-concordant and language-discordant clinical encounters. The student will have the opportunity to lead this project from start to finish. With appropriate supervision from faculty members and research assistants, student responsibilities will include submitting an IRB application, developing data collection tools, analyzing survey results, coding focus group discussions, and drafting a manuscript of the study findings. Skills in quantitative and qualitative data analysis will be particularly helpful. Proficiency in more than one language will be an asset. Projected start date is on a rolling basis.

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
