Safrole

"Safrole" is a descriptor in the National Library of Medicine's controlled vocabulary thesaurus, MeSH (Medical Subject Headings). Descriptors are arranged in a hierarchical structure, which enables searching at various levels of specificity.

Constituent of several essential oils, notably sassafras. It has been used as a topical antiseptic and it is carcinogenic to the liver so it is no longer used as a flavoring agent in foods.
