Mentoring - Current Student Opportunities
Migraine and Intracranial Headache Research  [login at prompt]
Available: 5/12/2011, Expires: 9/30/2012
Opportunities are available to study neuron-immune and endocrinological mechanisms that play a role in migraine and other intracranial headaches.

Neuro-immune-endocrine mechanisms of migraine  [login at prompt]
Available: 8/1/2011, Expires: 7/1/2013
To understand how the immune and endocrine systems (sex and stress hormones) influence the triggering of migraine using animals models. The student's role in this project is to actively engage in numerous types of research methods including in vivo electrophysiology, pain behavior, histology and pharmacology in order to investigate a number of specific hypothesis-driven research questions related to the origin of migraine and other types of headache (e.g. alcohol hangover) and the mechanims that promote increases sensitivity to headache triggers with focus in various hormonal conditions as well as sex. The Student is expected to be able to help run various experimental paradigms, collect data and take active part in its analysis.
