Overview
Christopher D. Anderson, MD, MMSc, FAAN is Chief of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Associate Chair of the Department of Neurology at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Associate Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School, and Associate Member of the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, where he is Co-PI of the Machine Learning for Health (ML4H) Program. Chris graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in Molecular and Cell Biology, and completed his medical education at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University. He received his clinical training in neurology and neurocritical care at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and research training at Harvard Medical School, Biogen, and the Program in Medical and Population Genetics at the Broad Institute. He has been an active research collaborator of Dr. Jonathan Rosand, with whom he currently co-leads a research lab in Cerebrovascular Health.
A longstanding international leader in stroke genetics and genomics, Chris co-leads a multi-disciplinary research group including trainees and staff scientists/engineers with formal training backgrounds and professional experience in medical and statistical genetics, computational biology, neurology, cardiology, machine learning, computer science, and software engineering devoted to understanding the causal biological processes that contribute to cerebrovascular diseases including stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, and dementia. He leads active research programs sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, the American Heart Association, and industry partnerships in healthcare technology and pharmaceutical development.
