Mentoring Available: 07/01/12, Expires: 06/28/13 The Harvard Dental Center (HDC) consists of pre-doctoral, advanced graduate and faculty practices and handles more than 45,000 patient visits per year. The HDC is part of the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and as such falls under and meets all CODA (Committee on Dental Accreditation) requirements, which are mainly focused on the educational aspects of the dental school.
HDCis interested in obtaining voluntary AAAHC accreditation of its dental clinics. AAAHC is the outpatient equivalent of what JCAHO is for hospital accreditation of clinical care.
As a first step towards AAAHC accreditation an in depth gap analysis needs to be performed of current clinical practices and how they match up with the accreditation requirements. The student will observe actual practices as well as review pertinent available written information (policies, minutes, practice handbooks, etc) in order to make a determination of current practices and assess the gap between current practices and required practices under the accreditation guidelines. Areas include infection control practices, governance structures, management of emergency patients, anesthesia practices, surgical practices, etc. Bibliographic
