We discovered a new and highly penetrant spontaneous mutation that leads to large nodular bilateral subcortical heterotopias and partial callosal agenesis. Previous research has suggested that there are profound changes in connectivity associated with developmental malformations. In this experiment, we will inject neuronal tracers into the heterotopia and into other brain regions that would be expected (or not) to connect to it. The student will be responsible for performing all aspects of the experiment, including injection of tracers, basic histology, immunohistochemistry, and evaluation of patterns of connectivity.
Student should be comfortable conducting research on mice. http://rosenlab.net/
