We have openings for students to participate in a wide range of studies investigating sleep-dependent memory consolidation in healthy normals and clinical populations, and at the relationship of dreaming both to memory and emotional processing and to disease states. Students have the opportunity to help design, run, and analyze the results from these studies. Examples of ongoing studies include (1) the role of diminished EEG sleep spindles in memory deficits in schizophrenia, (2) dream correlates of sleep-dependent memory consolidation on a 3D virtual maze task, (3) sleep-dependent memory consolidation in autism, (4) sleep-dependent rule-extraction from complex stimulus sets, and (5) electrodermal activity in the presleep period as a marker of insomnia. Students will be trained in polysomnographic sleep recording and statistical techniques as needed. If you read this far, you should know that we're a relatively laid back group who really love their work!!
