This project is a primarily informatic based study focused on the molecualar evolution of genes associated with the human brain and behavior (though it can be expanded to include other phenotypes). The student will learn and implement various molecular evolution techniques and will investigate divergence and polymorphism within and between species. This is primarily a "dry" position and can be accomplished remotely.

The goal of the project is to compare human variation associated with disease with divergence between species. Are certain diseases (schizophrenia/autism) associated with genes that have undergone recent evolutionary functional changes? This is primarily a bioinformatics based project, with the student using existing databases to explore disease associations and divergence between species.
